Careers
Mrs M. McColgan- Careers Coordinator
Mrs S. Gallagher
Miss L. Curry- Careers Advisor, Careers Advisory Service
Our aims:
Embedded in our careers provision is the ethos of focussing our pupils on what they need to know; what they can aspire to do; what they can do, and what they need to do. Through discrete time-tabled lessons they will be made aware of qualifications and skills most needed for the 21st-century economy. All this helps our young people in preparation for the workplace by providing them with a clear understanding of the world of work including the routes to jobs and careers that they hopefully find engaging and rewarding. We support and guide them in acquiring the self-development and career management skills they need to achieve positive employment in the future. As well as ensuring our young people have knowledge about the world they live in and the employment opportunities available, the Careers Department here at Strabane Academy place great importance in promoting the development of transferable/soft skills to enable them to navigate the world of work throughout their lives, and develop their knowledge of and understanding of themselves as individuals in order to allow them to learn how to make choices that enable them to meet their full potential. Overall, through our Careers Education Information Advice & Guidance (CEIAG) programme we aim to help our young people choose their pathways, improve their life opportunities, and contribute to a productive and successful economy.
